Wimbledon 2019 was a lesson in how to dress smart during the day
With a strict dress code at play, these were the A-listers that ushered in crisp style for the sporting event

The Wimbledon Grand Slam has always been known for its impeccable dress code for both players and guests at centre court. In 2015, Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton was invited to a championship game but was later turned away for his style choice – a floral shirt, tailored trousers and a fedora. The annual event is renowned for proper etiquette and though the rules were relaxed back in 2014, anyone to the sport or media is expected to dress to impress.
If you’re lucky enough to nab a spot in the Royal Box alongside the likes of Anna Wintour and Benedict Cumberbatch, the ‘smart casual’ brief applies as follows. Jeans and collarless shirts are frowned upon, large hats are prohibited and men are required to wear a lounge suit or a tailored blazer and pants. More formal shoes are preferred and despite the rise of logo mania amongst clothing, “ambush marketing” and anything depicting advertising or political statements are banned. With mercury normally rising into the mid-twenties during the Wimbledon tournament, the event is truly a display of dressing smart for the weather.
As Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer battled it out for the Wimbledon title across two weeks of matches, out on the streets and in the grand stand celebrity style made a strong play. David Beckham gave us a lesson in dapper tailoring while his son Brooklyn, added a youthful spin. Colour in the form of soft pinks and powder blues was also a strong contender and made a case for pastel suiting. Some A-listers opted for an open shirt or basic tee over the standard tie and even sneakers made a brave appearance.
