In recent years, Billy Porter has proved no red carpet is complete without him and for the occasion of the 2020 Golden Globe Awards, the actor, personality and philanthropist has once again turned heads.

As the ceremony kicks off the first event of the awards season trail, the Pose star spared no expense and with a mere six days into the turn of the new era, he is already the style muse of the decade. Just one year ago, Porter stepped out onto the same red carpet donned in a heavily-embellished pink cape. With a hidden message behind each of his looks, this year is no different and with an apt strut in his step, the 50-year-old arrived boasting a white suit and billowing, feather train.

“Fashion is activism as well”, Porter told reporters upon his angelic arrival. Donned head-to-toe in a Alex Vinash custom tuxedo , the actor who is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series Drama, floated along the red carpet, finished with Jimmy Choo shoes, Tiffany jewels and carried a mirrored bag, styled by Sam Ratelle.

“With [Billy], every single time we work on something together, the first thing we do is think: What is the statement we’re making with this? What can people take away from this?” Ratelle told Page Six Style following the 2019 Golden Globes.

“Like when he started wearing dresses recently, that was very specific because of all the stuff that was going on in the White House regarding transgender rights. We started talking about it and we’re like, we have to start representing these people because you have to normalise that somehow publicly. There has to be visibility.”

Watch the 2020 edition of the Golden Globes ceremony from 12 noon on January 6 on Foxtel’s Arena channel. ICON will have rolling coverage of the red carpet, ceremony and after parties.
