Tucked inside La Cantine Du Faubourg at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Gohan reveals itself as one of Dubai’s most atmospheric Japanese dining rooms. The speakeasy-style restaurant by the La Cantine team is softly lit, moody, and intimate. A place where flickers of neon bounce off wooden finishes, the soundtrack sways between R&B and hip-hop, and the night is as much about rhythm as it is about flavour.

The name “Gohan”, a Japanese word that translates to “meal of any sort” is a term often used to refer to any cooked rice dish. Here, the menu leans into elevated street-food plates designed for sharing. Signature maki rolls come layered with wagyu and truffle or king crab, while bluefin tuna sashimi is offered in prized cuts of akami, chutoro, and otoro. The kitchen’s playfulness shows up in unexpected places too: crispy rice topped with tuna tartare, wagyu striploin skewers, and even a wagyu-and-cheese spin on kushiyaki. For mains, highlights range from the indulgent Japanese A5 steak to a perfectly caramelized Chilean sea bass miso and Gohan’s own signature donabe rice cooked with mushroom, truffle, and seaweed butter. And for those with a sweet streak, the Gohan yuzu mochi and matcha sponge cake provide a fittingly playful finale.

Over the years, the restaurant has also cultivated a reputation for its cult-favourite nights, like Maki & Margi Mondays and the Tsuki Saturday Night Brunch, where the dining blends seamlessly with nightlife. It’s this mix of refinement, intimacy, and a slightly rebellious edge that keeps Gohan a city favourite.

Now, that energy has been distilled into something guests can actually wear. For the first time, Gohan is releasing its own merch: a collection of graphic cotton tees stamped with its cheeky motto, “Gohan or GoHome.” Designed with retro manga references and nods to the venue’s resident DJ sets, the shirts channel the same playful, underground spirit that defines a night at Gohan.

In true speakeasy fashion, they’re not something you can click to cart. The shirts, priced at AED 180, are available exclusively in-venue. Guests have to show up, order their fill, and quote the password #GohanOrGoHome to unlock them.

Because at Gohan, the experience has always been about more than what’s on the plate. It’s the music, the atmosphere, the crowd, and now, the chance to take a piece of that identity home.
