The pride flag has been a symbol of the LGBTQI+ community ever since its inception in 1978. Today, the rainbow print has been emblazoned onto iconic summer footwear as we approach the country’s Mardi Gras Festival in February. Now, you can show your pride from head to toe.

Since launching in Brazil 58 years ago, Havaianas has been dressing the feet of Australia, regardless of gender, social class, regionality, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. In partnership with Minus18 – an organisation that acts to improve the health and wellbeing of, and provide a safe environment for same-sex – the brand has launched the Pride Collection.

The summer must-haves are updated in two colourways – a black base with colour straps or rainbow base and white straps – with 25 percent of sales from every pair, either sold online at havaianasaustralia.com.au or in Havaianas Stores in Bondi and Manly donated to Minus18 between December 9 2020 and March 7 2021.

“In recent years we have made great strides in terms of diversity in our communication, but we know that this is a long journey. We understand that this change works like a ripple effect, and it is stronger if it is a long-term commitment. By permanently including the Pride line products in our portfolio and expanding our range with sizes that fit more people, gender revolution in non – binary e-commerce. Havaianas is committed to continuously celebrating, including, and supporting the community,” said Fernanda Romano, CMO of Alpargatas, holder of the Havaianas brand in Australia.

Elsewhere, functional footwear giant Teva has also released a Rainbow Pride Pack. The all gender Original Universal Teva sandal is reimagined with rainbow straps and black soles, the Midform iteration with a bright white sole and the Flatform Universal style boasting a multi-layered colourful sole.

Each style in the range features Teva’s iconic straps made from millions of reborn plastic bottles, turning waste that pollutes the planet into something that helps you explore it. The Rainbow Pride Pack is available for purchase on au.teva.com and at specialty retailers from January 8th, 2021.
