Hedi Slimane has been one of the most controversial disruptors of 2018. After his appointment to Celine earlier this year, the acclaimed photographer and cult stylist overhauled the fashion house for a new and modern era, prompting a wave of protestors in the form of “old Celine” advocates. But nevertheless, following his controversial Spring/Summer 2019 runway, the french designer debuted the Summer 2019 Menswear campaign.

Now live on the website and on social media, the latest campaign features an animated video comprising of images shot by Hedi Slimane. With models showcasing key looks from the new men’s collection, the video is backed with a soundtrack from French synth pop duo, RUTH. First released in 1985, the track stems from the Des Jeunes Gens Modems (Modern Young Men) project, and serves as the key inspiration for the collection.

Quintessential to Slimane’s grungy yet refined aesthetic, the entire collection is presented in black-and-white. Watch the campaign below.
