To watch a brand grow alongside a designer for almost forty years is a rarity, and to witness Hermès’s relationship with Véronique Nichanian bloom is a gift. The French institution established itself as an equestrian brand, but will forever be known as the designers behind the holy grail of iconic handbags and leather goods. The brand stands the test of time, preferring to use ‘quiet luxury’ as a loud and definitive brand statement.

Nichanian entered the world of Hermès in 1988 when she was appointed by a descendant of Thierry Hermès, Jean-Louis Dumas, as the Artistic Director of the menswear division. Since then, she has stood at the heart of Hermès, weathering decades of changing trends and tastes across generations. A statement announcing her departure from the brand read: “There is not an Hermès man; there are Hermès men.” Her final collection will be an emotional farewell to the designer of nearly four decades, as Hermès travels back to their homeland, Paris, for Nichanian’s swan song show. This collection is expected to maintain the essence of Hermès that we all admire, accentuating craftsmanship, tailoring, and mastery of simplicity. Véronique Nichanian leaves behind the brand’s legacy unblemished.

Still, the maison announced the theme of 2026 as “Venture Beyond” on Instagram. The caption reads: “Venture beyond – Introducing the 2026 theme of the year 🌊⛵ Take a leap and dive into the unknown.” The exciting theme feels reflective of the brand’s imminent adventure through a new era without Véronique, one where Grace Wales Bonner is expected to debut her successorship in 2027.

Where to Watch

For those of us who aren’t lucky enough to be in Paris, sitting front row, Hermès will live stream Véronique Nichanian’s final curtain call Saturday, January 24 at 8 pm Paris time (5 am AEST).
