As winter looms on across the Southern Hemisphere it’s a normal response to layer up and opt for dark colours to match your mood. But thanks to a rise in avant-garde styling and casual streetwear, bold colour has made a comeback. From hot pink to emerald green, colour blocking and prints have never become so prominent but the colour we’re loving? Yellow.

“This winter yellow is key whether it’s fluro or lemon”, ICON Fashion Director, Kim Payne advises.

Like it’s close cousin, orange, the sunny hue has made a revival in recent years and whether you’re in the snow on top of the hinterlands or across Sydney’s beaches, yellow is appropriate for any occasion. While the look for some may be too bold, Payne suggests to “parr it back with tones that keep it warm like camels, creams and chocolate.”

To pull off the look, ensure that your skin tone suits the colour choice. Neutral, warm and dark undertones suit brighter yellows and if you have a pale skin tone, try a softer pastel as to avoid looking washed out and tired.
