It is true what they say, bigger is better and when it comes to outerwear this season we have to agree. For layering purposes, oversized coats are the way to go to pack warmth into any look but, worn on its own lends an urbanised edge to a basic fit. Drawn from the gritty side streets and underground subcultures of punk and hip-hop in the ’80s and ’90s comes a modern revival of the hooded parka. But make no mistake, this is no dated look.
If anyone was going to reimagine the billowing coat for the modern street teen, it had to be Coach. Hailing from the hustle and bustle of New York City, the American fashion house has come to define the US high fashion scene with its heritage silhouettes, and modern treatment. Made for the daily commuter and stylishly-gifted youth of today, there is almost no wrong way to don the style. According to ICON stylist Patrick Zaczkiewicz, it’s the pop of colour and details that elevate the look.
“It’s all about the coat, the big patterned statement piece. I love the blue lining of the jacket and gives it that extra pop. I’ve layered it over the T-REX hoodie, giving it a casual yet urban feel to the look. The oversized aesthetic is what a concentrated on here, big elements and layers paired with a tailored black trouser.”
To finish off the look, why not tie your accessories in with the hero piece. 2019 has seen the resurgence of the mini cross body bag for men and we suggest opting for the trend to add style-factor.
“The crossbody monogram bag is a great piece for any man’s wardrobe and can easily be worn crossbody or as a necklace accessory – the colours tying the whole look together,” Patrick adds.
