It appears that summer has arrived early to the shores of Australia. The days are longer and hotter and while the weather is a welcomed departure from the icy winds Sydney have been known for in winter, we’re bracing for a blistering season. As the new season is ushered in with a flurry, so too are the incoming trends. The easiest to don this summer? Stripes.
The candyman print never truly went out of style, nor did the 50’s rockabilly iteration, however as we regress from fluro colour palettes and obnoxious print-clashing people are opting for something more pared back and contemporary. ICON stylist Patrick Zaczkiewicz describes the first look as the “perfect summer set.” “Matching stripes but in different colours make the look more fresh, and the tucked in shirt into a short is a more contemporary approach to a minimal style.”
Despite a seemingly casual style, stripes can be inserted into any look for a more formal approach. Drawing from the ’50s era of Elvis Presley and rockabilly vibes, the bowling shirt is the way to go when you want to elevate a basic fit. And in a lightweight knit lends a mature styling practice. “The interesting details in the classic bowling shirt are the buttons all the way down the front. And the colour matching of the pink in the top to the trousers is very summery and fresh – boys can of course wear pink. This look is a really effortless look for a more formal lunch or event,” Patrick suggests.
