Calling all sartorial enthusiasts. Suit up, because Awards Season is here and kicking off the slew of red carpets is the Golden Globes 2019. Whether you’re watching to become a fashion critic or will genuinely sit down to take in the entirety of the awards, there is nothing like grabbing some style inspiration while you’re here. Namely, the modern take on the black-tie dress code.
You’ve already seen floral renditions and velvet blazers but if there is one thing that has stood out amongst the pack this evening, it is Idris Elba‘s deep turquoise ensemble.
Fronting the red carpet with fiancé, Sabrina Dhowre and daughter Isan Elba – who is also this year’s Golden Globe Ambassador – the 46-year-old actor donned a green-patterned suit jacket, vest and accompanying velvet oxfords. Like many of his past red carpet looks, Elba discarded the standard tie for an open shirt that is modern, yet equally refined.
Experimenting with colour in muted hues, Idris Elba makes the risky style-move, a cinch.
Talking to E! News direct from the red carpet, the actor also revealed what fans should expect from his upcoming set at the 2019 Coachella Arts & Music Festival – a “lifetime ambition” for him. “I’m going to rock Coachella,” Elba added. “It’s going to be great.”
In the meantime, he has fronted the evening in support for his daughter. “I told her to keep her back straight, elegance is presence, smile and nod politely even if you can’t understand what anyone’s saying,” Idris told E! News. “If you feel like you’re going to pass out.. don’t.”
