Since Israel invaded Lebanon in October, the misery wrought upon those living in Lebanon has been catastrophic. Over 2,000 Lebanese civilians have been killed, and over 1.4 million people – mostly from Southern Lebanon – have been displaced after having been forced to flee their homes.

To bring relief to these people, many of whom were forced to leave generations of belongings and memories to seek relative safety with nothing but their clothes on their backs, a collective of 37 Lebanese artists have come together to create a compilation of tracks under the project Land 01 (أرض ٠١).

Described as “a compilation for the displaced in Lebanon”, Land 01 (أرض ٠١) will feature a collection of electronic, experimental, and ambient tracks by various Lebanese musicians. It will be released exclusively on Bandcamp on December 6, and all the proceeds from the project will be donated to the organisers, Beirut Synthesizer Center and Tunefork Studios’ fund for the displaced.

Beirut Synthesizer Center and Tunefork Studios have already amassed over $115,000 for those who have been displaced by Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. With this amount, they have been able to provide over 4,000 mattresses, over 3,700 pillows, and over 3,500 blankets, as well as diapers, baby formula, medicine, clothes and food parcels to those in need.

Through Land 01 (أرض ٠١), Beirut Synthesizer Center and Tunefork Studios aim to raise additional funds for winter clothing and heaters as Lebanon descends into an unforgiving winter in which temperatures will fall below 5°C in parts of the country, while also continuing to supply the continuing demand for blankets, mattresses and pillows as Israel continues pulverising Lebanon with airstrikes despite agreeing to a ceasefire on November 26.

Lebanese composer and writer Hamed Sinno, who was formerly the lead singer of the alt-rock band Mashrou’ Leila, and is among the artists participating in the initiative, took to Instagram to raise awareness and encourage people to pre-order Land 01 (أرض ٠١) and support Beirut Synthesizer Center and Tunefork Studios “efforts to raise funds for the displaced in Lebanon.”
