In the last five decades, the month of June has largely been recognised as Pride Month. Symbolised by the iconic rainbow flag, it was in fact Gilbert Baker in 1978 who brought the concept to life with his hand-made flag in a bid to unite the LGBT community. Entitled ‘Pride Flag’, it was debuted in San Fransisco and ever since has remained as a beacon of hope for the growing commonality.

Forty years since its inception and Nike are translating the worldwide symbol into a series of sneakers and apparel. Teaming up with the Gilbert Baker Estate, the sporting powerhouse has memorialised the rainbow across the Nike Air Max 90 BETRUE, Tailwind 79, Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo and Air Max 720 as well as basic t-shirts, tank tops, hoodies and a bag. A nod to the process Baker undertook, Nike designers have given the shoes a handmade effect with embroidery style cues, featured across the sneakers.

In addition, every shoe’s right sockliner will have the Pride flag’s eight colours with each colour’s meaning, while every shoe’s left sockliner is pink and has Baker’s signature.
