Known for his contemporary street style and edgy designs, Riccardo Tisci announced his new position at Burberry in early March of this year and we now have a first look at his first collection with the luxury British brand.

After 12 years at Givenchy, Tisci is now the Chief Creative Officer working under Marco Gobetti, Burberrys CEO. It’s not the first time they have worked together – Gobetti was previously president and chief executive at Givenchy and was responsible for hiring Tisci in his previous incarnation.

“Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time. His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury,” said Gobetti.

With Burberry’s long standing history and heritage that surrounds the aesthetic of the brand it remains to be seen how Tisci’s flair for street style will be infused into the classic designs. His first collection at the British fashion house titled ‘B Classic’ has a limited glimpse of the upcoming line courtesy of Tisci’s Instagram – and as the name suggests, original designs have been included.

From classic trenches to quilted coats and the iconic beige checked pattern, the ‘B Classic’ collection offers the same familiarity but almost appears to have a modern, wearable street silhouette.

“I wanted to celebrate the beauty, heritage, and legacy that I discovered when I first arrived at Burberry. B Classic is an edit that I’ve curated to honour the icons of the House – pieces like the trench coat, the quilted jacket, the car coat, the kilt – which sits at the heart of the SS19 pre-collection designed by the fantastic Burberry design team,” says Tisci.

Stay tuned for the roll-out of the rest of the collection.
