On the things we had laid out on our bingo cards for 2022, Ricky Martin being involved in a domestic violence case against his nephew in explosive incest claims was definitely not on them.

Earlier this month, news cycles had gone overdrive with the story that an anonymous individual had requested a restraining order against Ricky for alleged domestic violence.

Over the weekend, Spanish news outlet Marca revealed that Ricky’s 21-year-old nephew Dennis Yadiel Sanchez had been the one to make the request against the 50-year-old performer after Ricky’s brother Eric shared the information in a series of social media videos in support of his brother.

According to reports, Sanchez alleges that he and Ricky, who has been married to Syrian-Swedish painter Jwan Yosef since 2017, had been in a relationship for seven months. According to reports, it was when the relationship ended several months ago that Ricky allegedly began stalking Sanchez.

Ricky has denied all claims made by his nephew. In a statement to TMZ, Martin’s lawyer Martin Singer stated that “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

Singer went on to say that any claim that his client had been involved with his nephew was not only false but also the fabrication of someone who had struggled with mental health: “Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges. Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew”

In his videos where he reveals both that Sanchez was behind the request, Eric states he that he doesn’t believe the accusations made against Ricky Martin and backs up the claims that their nephew has had a history of mental health issues.

If found guilty, Ricky Martin could face up to 50 years in prison under Puerto Rican’s strict sexual crime laws.
