Supreme is set to release their next highly anticipated collab with the Japanese brand HYSTERIC GLAMOUR in the coming days.

While Supreme does what Supreme does best, that is combining garish graphics with slogans, HYSTERIC GLAMOUR merges American influences with aesthetics that are uniquely Japanese.

Among the grail-worthy pieces in the Spring 2021 collection are a snake-emblazoned trucker jacket and painter pants available in three colourways, a knit cardigan with onomatopoeic slogans, and a velour track jacket and shorts combo with rainbow detailing in the sleeves. In case you felt like rocking a tongue-in-cheek aluminium lunchbox to work, they have that too, complete with angry pigtailed-lady logo and compact spoon.

Striking pieces are in abundance with bold leopard print on a coat reminding us that animal print is all-weather appropriate. Likewise, a leopard pullover with Supreme and Hysteric branding and a bright red graphic is available. A purple toned flannel button-up shirt with a skeleton graphic above the pockets might be the flair your outfit needs in 2021.

Peppered through the collection are graphics of topless women, one of whom flips the bird to onlookers from the back of a hoodie. Textual profanities are also woven into the knit cardigan. Spectators have already weighed in on the inclusion of these in the release, some claiming that performative edginess is at play here. It’s also likely that the designers looked at the year gone past and agreed that what we all need is a good, collective expletive to bring us together.

While Supreme has been dominating the collaborative space of streetwear since the 2000s, HYSTERIC GLAMOUR has been around since the 80s and recently segued into creative collaborations in the furniture and lifestyle accessories space.

Following the success of the 2017 Supreme x HYSTERIC GLAMOUR collection, the brands will be immersed in a very different market in 2021. With the repetitious nature of streetwear releases becoming more evident, it remains to be seen whether fans will warm to the temperature of this characteristically brazen release.

The collection will be released globally via Supreme’s official website on March 18, 11 am EDT or March 19, 1 am AEDT.
