Hugh Jackman’s hero role Wolverine, has appeared in film nine times over the course of 17 years. Reprising the character time and time again, though it’d be hard to ever replace the 50-year-old the internet is buzzing over rumours that Taron Egerton may one day face the character. As Marvel looks to acquire rights to the wolf-cross-human mutant, the Rocketman star has addressed the numerous suggestions.

Known for his role in Kingsman as well as his most recent performance in the spectacular Rocketman film, Egerton has been in the public eye for sometime now.

At the HFPA Grants banquet on Wednesday, Egerton told Variety that he had heard about the buzz that was circling MCU fans and that he’d love to join the fourth phase of the cinematic universe. “I love Marvel and I love the movies and I’d love the excuse to get in shape,” he told Variety‘s Marc Malkin. “I’d love to be a part of it, whether [Wolverine] is realistic or not, I don’t know.”

Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, president Kevin Feige confirmed that the mutants would eventually come to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While it may be a strong possibility for the young actor, Egerton admitted to Heart Breakfast in the past that he doesn’t think he’s quite “grisly” enough.

“That one I think is just a rumour. As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough.” The 29-year-old also added, “I mean if the people at Marvel think I am, then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere.”

Only time will tell. Stay tuned.
