In 1755, Jean-Marc Vacheron signed a watchmaking apprenticeship contract in the serene and prosperous city of Geneva. This act, regarded as the founding of Vacheron Constantin, marked the beginning of a 270-year journey of unparalleled watchmaking excellence.

Since then, the Maison has continually revolutionized and redefined the art of luxury watchmaking – and to commemorate 270 years of this pioneering legacy, Vacheron Constantin has unveiled a new edition of the iconic Historiques 222, now cased in stainless steel.

Designed by the visionary Jorg Hysek, the original Historiques 222 model broke away from the sports watch conventions of its time, which were predominantly tailored for pilots, divers, and explorers. Hysek’s creation embraced a new cultural sensibility, blending formality and sportiness in a way that was both groundbreaking and traditional. Its design introduced a distinctive stylistic signature to the maison, further cementing Vacheron Constantin’s legacy.

Vacheron Constantin is honouring this legacy with a new edition of the iconic Historiques 222 model from 1977 – affectionately nicknamed ‘Jumbo’ by collectors – which features a sleek blue dial set within a 37mm stainless steel case, to offer a seamless blend of timeless elegance and modern innovation.

The 2025 edition also incorporates several technical enhancements that elevate the Historiques 222’s design and functionality. The bracelet’s joints have been re-engineered to conceal visible pins and improve ergonomics. A triple-blade clasp replaces the twin-blade mechanism of the original, providing enhanced security and comfort, and the case back has been updated with a transparent sapphire crystal, showcasing the meticulously crafted in-house Calibre 2455/2 movement and bearing a special engraving to commemorate the Geneva-based maison’s 270th anniversary.

The changes extend to the dial as well. The date window has been thoughtfully repositioned closer to the centre, avoiding interference with the minutes track, and every detail of the finishing exemplifies the refinement and meticulous craftsmanship that define Vacheron Constantin.

The first highlight of Vacheron Constantin’s 270th anniversary year is the story of a quest that has lasted for 270 years, a testament to the maison’s history and dedication to innovation, and a piece that should demand the attention of every enthusiast and collector.
