Over the past decade, Valentino has become synonymous with the instantly recognisable Garavani Rockstud accessories. On its 10th anniversary the Italian Maison has opened the renowned “stud” for interpretation by brands and designers with a project titled Valentino Garavani Rockstud X. First on the creative lineup is Britain’s Craig Green.
In partnership with creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, Green lends his edgy utilitarian flair for a sneaker silhouette. Reimagining the beloved canvas court shoe, the outer sole is embraced by a sculptural sole made of maxi Rockstud, where the stud is both part of the design aesthetic and functionality. And of course its wearable nature is drawn from a pared back colour palette of Black, Light Ivory, Army Green and Deep grey.
According to the luxury fashion house, the collaborative effort and in some ways, cultural exchanges, becomes hope, expectation and method.
“Fashion is in constant quest for juxtaposition, a magnificent obsession as a conscious need of nourishment,” the house explained via a press release. “Fashion has to embrace the social culture of the moment of time it lives in. This implies a continuous challenge between the surrounding and what is perceived as a possible dialogue and exploration of new sceneries.”
To celebrate the forthcoming design, an exclusive installation will be commissioned and characterise the CRAIG GREEN x ROCKSTUD X VALENTINO GARAVANI: a structure that draws inspiration from both Creative Directors, across a minimal design that almost recalls a place of shelter. The structure, composed of wood and paper components is entirely made of low environmental impact elements.
The co-created sneakers will exclusively launch in Dover Street Market London and Ginza on June 12th 2021, and will then roll out in selected Valentino boutiques worldwide and on Valentino.com.
