Everything
Historically, pants on the red carpet have made for some unforgettable moments, including Julia Roberts at the 1990 Golden Globes, Celine Dion wearing her Christian Dior tuxedo backwards at the 1999 Oscars, Zendaya at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party or Diane Keaton channelling Annie Hall in a Ralph Lauren suit at the 2004 Oscars. And joining these icons on the list are Greta Lee and Ayo Edebiri.
In a sea of dramatic gowns, the duo eschewed the traditional dress codes and took a bold risk with pants at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
Styled by celebrity favourite Danielle Goldberg, both Lee and Edebiri—nominated for Best Actress and Best Actress in a Comedy Series, respectively—tied for best dressed in their subversive takes on red carpet style.
First up was Lee in a bedazzled black coordinating set from her go-to label, Loewe, made up of a button-up loose knit top and high-waisted wide-leg trousers.
The look was originally part of the Loewe Menswear Spring/Summer 2024 show, but Lee switched things up with black stilettos and diamond earrings by Tiffany & Co.
Edebiri opted for the other end of the colour spectrum in crisp white suiting.
The effortlessly chic look comprised a simple crew-neck t-shirt under a relaxed-fit blazer and matching trousers from The Row’s Spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection.
She paired the outfit with John Lennon-inspired sunglasses by Oliver Peoples, statement silver earrings and pointed black pumps for laidback glam.
Though the two were already making headlines for their fun and unique approach to red carpet dressing in 2023, if this year’s appearances are anything to go by, 2024 is shaping up to be the year of Lee and Edebiri.
