Everything
A picture paints a thousand words and this one speaks of political turmoil. The 44th G7 Summit was held this past weekend in Canada and from what has been revealed through Twitter, it appears things didn’t go so well.
Including some of the US’s most powerful allies as well as making up 60% of the world’s wealth – the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Japan, Canada, and Italy – the annual summit started off on unsteady ground as Donald Trump announced tariffs to be imposed on the EU and Canada. These disputes over trade policy rocked the event with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron promising to retaliate. Of course, Trump took to Twitter to publicly insult the leaders.
Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!

PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, “US Tariffs were kind of insulting” and he “will not be pushed around.” Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!

As the summit with North-Korean leader Kim Jong-Un begins, speculations have sparked as to whether this most recent event will have an impact on the outcome in Singapore.
This is an obvious point but I haven’t seen it made yet: the G7 blowup increases the chance that Trump makes concessions so that the Kim summit looks like a success. Otherwise he’ll be 0 for 2 on this trip.

And just to compare the declining relations between the world leaders, this is what the G7 Summit looked like when Barack Obama was in office. More to come.
