After 11 years at the helm of Loewe, Jonathan Anderson has announced his departure, closing a chapter that reshaped the Spanish house into one of the most thrilling forces in fashion.

Since his appointment in 2013, Anderson has masterfully fused heritage craftsmanship with surrealist design, transforming a once relatively unknown brand into a beacon of contemporary elegance and avant-garde artistry.

As one of the most exciting and innovative designers of our time, his tenure was marked by a fearless approach to fashion—one that blurred the lines between utility and abstraction, art and wearability, all without takin itself too seriously. From the cult-favourite Puzzle bag to viral campaigns and silhouettes that captivated on red carpets, Anderson’s vision has long brought a much-needed playfulness to today’s fashion landscape. With whimsical yet intellectual collections, he ensured Loewe’s runway shows remained a consistent favourite show on every fashion month schedule.

“Over the last eleven years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, tenacity and resourcefulness to find a way to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Looking back, I’ve come to realise that a brand is not built on the first show, or even a first year of shows, it’s built slowly season upon season, year upon year, on what is right for a brand.”

He concluded with a promise of hope for the House.

“They say all good things must to come to an end, but I disagree,” he continued:

“While my own chapter draws to a close, LOEWE’s story will continue for many years to come and I will look on with pride.”

His departure naturally sparks speculation about what’s next, especially with so many other creative leaderships movements currently going on. Could the rumours be true? Is a major French house in his future? Fashion insiders have long whispered that Anderson is a prime candidate for a top-tier creative directorship elsewhere. Meanwhile, Loewe faces the challenge of continuing the legacy he built—a brand that became more than just a luxury leather goods manufacturer, but a pillar of the fashion zeitgeist.

Whatever comes next, one thing is certain: fashion’s most audacious storyteller is far from finished, and so goes the same for the house he helped build up.
