It appears that Kanye West is in bed with the enemy. Or more importantly the competitor. Behind Yeezy, of which has an overwhelming cult status amongst sneaker heads and style enthusiasts alike, West has also been a driving force of sales for Adidas for some years. So when the rapper and street style mogul was caught trying a pair of Nike sneakers over the Thanksgiving break, it raised eyebrows.
First revealed by Complex Sneakers, West was seen seemingly trying on a pair of Nike ISPA Air Max 720 on his left foot while donning his own Yeeezy style on the right. Normally retailing for upwards of $280 AUD, it is far cheeper than the resale for some of his most covetable kicks. Other than being a mere competitor to both Adidas and Yeezy, West has had beef with Nike in the past after he famously left the company for the three stripes brand in 2013.
In 2016, he dropped the track ‘Facts’ which continually throws shade at Nike.“If Nike ain’t have Drizzy, man they would have nothin’” he raps, and, “Nike treat employees just like slaves / Gave LeBron a billi’ not to run away.” Travis Scott’s collaborative track ‘Sicko Mode’ dropped earlier this year with Drake and its lyrics read, “checks over stripes’. This reignited the feud.
So, it begs to ask the question. Is the beef between West and Nike over? Or is the rapper simply doing some brand research whilst on a shopping spree? Time will tell.
