In yet another revamp of the coveted Air Max 98, Nike has looked to the upcoming Chinese New Year for its latest iteration of the classic sneaker. Being the “Year of the Pig”, the sportswear powerhouse has decided to go all-out, celebrating the event with a clash of prints and textures – a unique take on the swoosh design.

As part of a larger collection which will see a slew of silhouettes also reimagined, the design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese artwork with a more modern twist. Whilst the top section of the upper boasts design cues from the country heritage, the Air Max 98 also features a complex layer of snakeskin prints, soft fur and nubuck, providing an avant-garde design only made for the brave sneaker heads among us.

The Air Max 98 “Year of the Pig” Sneaker is one of 12 iterations set to be released for Chinese New Year 2019, and will also include the Kyrie 5, Zoom Pegasus Turbo, Air Max 270, Air Jordan 12 and Chuck Taylor.

An official release date has not yet been mentioned but is slated to drop in late January, in time for the annual event which will occur on February 5. Stay tuned and in the meantime, cop a closer look of the sneakers below.
