“Alexa, send Scout to see what that noise was in the lounge room.” Then out wheels your personal security guard, zooming down the corridor to investigate. But don’t imagine a kind of post-modern, Blade Runner-type robot uprising, instead think…smaller. The Moorebot Scout is only a few inches high, perhaps making him the cutest, and handiest 4-wheel drive on the market. He’s also a snappy little guard. Scout hosts a clear camera that records movement and sound around your home. It’s able to accommodate night vision, has two-way audio and, with the addition of A.I., can even operate autonomously.

More like a Jetsons pet than an electronic appliance, Scout recognises obstacles and returns himself to the charging dock when required. In fact, Moorebot’s CEO Jun Ye lists “pet companion” as one of Scout’s many uses.

As personal surveillance becomes more sophisticated and, in turn, more prevalent, the future of protection versus privacy will complicate. However, to be able to keep your (real) pets and possessions under watch when you’re out, is a nifty offering from this gadget. And it’s just one step closer to the roll out of future robotic housekeepers, which we’re here for. At around A$235, it’s a small investment to know what’s going on under your own roof…which we’d assume to be mostly Cat vs. Scout videos, tbh. It will be available this year via Amazon.
