Everything

The sartorial choices of ‘zillennials’ have been chastised after The White Lotus’ Portia and her gaudy ensembles left a permanent mark on the cultural zeitgeist.
But, if there is any hope for the next generation of style savants, it lies in Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet.
Independent of one other, their red carpet prowess is a sartorial triumph, however, as they proved on the press tour for sci-fi cult-favourite Dune, these multi-hyphenated stars work infallibly better as a pair.
Case in point: their reunion at the 2023 CinemaCon to promote Dune’s interstellar sequel, Dune 2.

For the occasion, the Hollywood heavyweights both paid homage to avant-garde European-isms by taking two very different approaches to styling a tailored classic: the vest.
For Zendaya, a freshly minted Louis Vuitton ambassador, opted for a backless variation that featured a leather strap accent and contrasting Prince of Wales check detailing from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
For the collection, Ghesquière toyed with the notion of French girl essentials, and this playfully oversized woollen-grey look clearly emphasises that Zendaya has the alluring je ne sais quoi of a supernova.

Though this look is classically understated, it’s a natural fit for her first public appearance since her Capucine campaign was released.
As for Chalamet, he went the vintage route when it came to his vest choice, opting for a leather Helmut Lang piece from the designer’s Spring/Summer 1998 collection.

Further proof that the late-90s has more to offer than a melange of social media users gravitating towards discombobulated style choices that resemble a randomised Sims outfit.
While the streets may be full of checkerboard or House Of Sunny swan sweater vests à la Portia, Zendaya and Timothée are proving that the future of red carpet dressing is safe in their hands.
