Amouage, the Omani High Perfumery House, is expanding its Exceptional Extraits collection with two new additions: Decision 42 and Overture 41. Both take existing eaux de parfum and push their emotional core to a more heightened, intense register, a hallmark of the Exceptional Extraits line, which reimagines familiar Amouage stories from a more profound angle rather than simply reformulating them. According to Chief Creative Officer Renaud Salmon, the two source fragrances were natural candidates for the treatment because they already deal in extremes. Overture Woman tells the story of an understudy singer thrust onto the stage to replace an ailing star, while Decision follows a tree struck by lightning and pushed to the edge of survival. Salmon wanted to see how far those “heightened sentiments” could be stretched.

Working with perfumer Quentin Bisch, Salmon has intensified the lightning-strike drama at the centre of the original Decision. The composition opens with neroli, cardamom, and cinnamon standing in for the jolt of the strike itself, while the juniper heart, representing the tree, is deepened with patchouli and rectified pine tar for a darker, more far-reaching presence. Vanilla and labdanum round out the base, adding warmth and a sense of enduring resilience. The result is built around the same existential question as the original: will the tree survive? But here, as Salmon puts it, the stakes feel more pressing. Decision 42 is presented at 42% extrait de parfum concentration, aged six weeks, in the Amber Woody Aromatic family.

Perfumer Annick Menardo, meanwhile, returns to her original Overture Woman and elevates its heroine from a nervous debutante to a full-fledged diva. Saffron, Calvados, and rose are expanded to a grander scale, balanced against an intensified patchouli-and-leather base. A new sweet, resinous amber accord, absent from the original, keeps the composition grounded, while Sandalwood Drèches Absolute, made from upcycled sandalwood chips, lends the whole thing gravitas and staying power. Overture 41 sits at 41% concentration, also aged six weeks, in the Amber Woody Spicy family.

Though Overture Woman and Decision were released five years apart and were never designed as companions, working on both extraits simultaneously led Salmon to see them as two halves of the same idea. He draws a direct parallel between the singer stepping into the spotlight and the tree struck by lightning: both, he says, stand at a crossroads, deciding whether their story is over or whether they’ll push forward into something larger than themselves. What defines the Exceptional Extraits line more broadly is that kind of calibration: extensive testing of ageing time and oil concentration to find the exact formula that best expresses each story, pushing both ingredients and perfumers to their limits.

Both fragrances arrive in Amouage’s signature flacon with dramatic inner lacquering, seagull grey for Decision 42, rich amber for Overture 41, set inside packaging illustrated by Belgian artist Louise Mertens, who also directed the campaign imagery. The Decision 42 stills lean into scorched, gold-veined juniper wood, while Overture 41’s visuals draw on opera-house organza and suspended silk. A video campaign, shot by liquid and macro cinematography specialist Thomas Vanz, rounds out the launch.

Decision 42 and Overture 41 launch in Amouage’s boutiques and website on September 1, 2026, followed by global distributors on October 1, 2026. Each 100ml Extrait de Parfum retails at approximately 510 EUR / 445 GBP / 550 USD / 2,365 AED.
