For a debut EP, Dean Lewis’ “Be Alright” has been a huge hit right across the world, and after five nominations (including Best Male Artist, Best Pop Release, Apple Music Song of the Year, Best Video and Best Australian Live Act) and scoring the ARIA Award for Best Video, there is no wonder that it is cause for nostalgia.

At 31 years, Lewis started his career late – in 2016, but that may have been for the best. “I was writing songs in my room for six years and wasn’t really showing anyone…. I just never thought it was that good. I think a lot of people are in that position.”

After receiving the award for Best Video followed by a stellar live performance, it is hard to believe that just years ago, he was on the other side of the red carpet.

“Well I was the guy that had the microphone on the red carpet I guess you’d say, and I was the big boom pole audio guy, before this. So other side, yeah it’s pretty cool… There’s so much happening.”

“I was writing songs and a friend of mine passed a demo onto someone called Leonee who used to manage Savage Gardens, and basically I got a record deal.”

“Be Alright”, peaked at number 1 on the charts and spent five weeks there – a testament to his music. Coined Australia’s “new sweetheart” and “non-teenager heartthrob”, a highly anticipated debut album is rumoured to be on the way in 2019. So stay tuned and in the meantime, check out his live performance below, direct from the ARIA Awards 2018.
