It is well and truly that time of year. The work year is fading and a well-earned break is needed. While Down Under it is customary to head to the nearest beach or quiet escape, there is a new excuse to ditch the seaside for a snowy trip up north. While a European New Year’s promises arctic temperatures, it does provide plenty of adventure, culture and mulled wine – is there anything else you need? Yes, Christmas is an expensive exercise but according to Skyscanner, your dream winter holiday doesn’t have to be, with best-value destinations, magic included.

If you’re looking to head to Europe in January, Poland, Germany and Spain should be on the list. Tenerife, Spain has seen a 44 percent price-drop and if you stay into the month of February, you’ll experience the famed Carnival with parties across the city. Malaga, Spain was another city listed and promises an array of art and culture. Düsseldorf and  Frankfurt in Germany have seen a price-drop of 43 and 40 percent respectively for February and January and the country is known for its abundance of art and history. Close by, Wroclaw in Poland is reported to have a price-drop of 42 percent.

Elsewhere, Bratislava in Slovakia, Eindhoven in Netherlands, Jersey in the United Kingdom and Shannon in Ireland are all considered best value destinations for the month of January. So, if you’re looking for a solo escape or perhaps a family affair, we suggest booking soon.
