The design of Carl Hansen & Søn lands in San Francisco with the inauguration of a new flagship store that follows the recent opening in the Flatiron District of New York.

San Francisco has long represented a crossroads of international ideas and values and, thanks to its reputation as a destination for design, offers the ideal setting for our first roadside store in the United States,” said the CEO by Carl Hansen & Søn Knud Erik Hansen.

The space is spread over 190 square meters in loft style and recalls the aesthetics of the Pacific Northwest of the fifties. Inside, natural materials alternate from white oiled oak to walnut, with soft pink and moss green touches.

There are two main exhibition spaces and tell the story of Danish design. In the main hall are the classics of Hans J. Wegner, Ole Wanscher, Mogens Koch, Poul Kjærholm and Frits Henningsen, together with works by Tadao Ando, the Austrian trio of designers EOOS and Danish designers Anker Bak and Naja Utzon Popov.

A library created with the personalised collections from Mogens Koch connects the first setting to the second, which celebrates the DNA of the Danish brand, exposing furniture like the instant classic in modern Danish design, the Faaborg Chair, designed by Kaare Klint in 1914.
