Everything
Wherever Conor McGregor goes, controversy soon follows.
Known for his fiery temper, fighting skills and longstanding feud with Khabib Nurmagomedov, despite his infamous reputation the MMA fighter is incredibly successful. With a liquor brand under his belt and enough cash to sit comfortably for the remainder of his days, his next move was however something we did not see coming. Taking to Twitter, the athlete announced his unexpected retirement.
Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.

Casual and very candid, his decision isn’t completely out of the blue, with the Irish fighter vocal in the past over his hesitation – or should we criticism – regarding the UFC. Demanding to be awarded shares from the company as well as recent losses against Nurmagomedov and Floyd Mayweather, McGregor is clearly unhappy with the organisation. Additionally, though he is the ripe age of 30, he isn’t getting any younger.
But like many figures in the entertainment and sporting industry, could the announcement be simply a publicity ploy ahead of a big event? Or is he ready to bow out gracefully, quitting while he is ahead? We’re not quite buying it and neither is Twitter.
Expectedly, the comments and retweets are coming in thick and fast, and we’ll admit, they’re pretty funny. Nevertheless, his long line of success is a testament to his career and the skills the fighter obtains in and out of the ring. While we wait for confirmation on his so-called retirement, sit back and scroll through our favourite Twitter reacts.
