It has been well over two weeks since rapper A$AP Rocky was arrested and imprisoned in a Sweden jail. Following his performance at Smash Hip-Hop festival in Stockholm, the rapper and members of his entourage were involved in an altercation with two passerby’s when a fight broke out.

Reportedly charged with “gross assault”, rumours and speculations have been circling over his treatment while incarcerated as well as the closed court proceedings dealing with his release. Now, after Kim Kardashian-West and husband Kanye lobbied the White House to free the 30-year-old, Donald Trump published a tweet stating he will “personally vouch” for the artist’s bail.

Trump followed the tweet also saying, “Our teams will be talking further, and we agreed to speak again in the next 48 hours!”

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven responded through his press secretary assuring the public that Rocky will not receive any special treatment and that “underlined that in Sweden everyone is equal before the law and that the government cannot and will not attempt to influence the legal proceedings.”

On Friday, a judge ruled that Rocky and two members of his group will remain in jail until July 25. In Sweden however, there is currently no bail system.

Donald Trump’s heroic efforts – albeit misdirected – came under fire over the weekend when Justin Bieber sent out a tweet asking the president to free the children from cages first. He was referring to the immigration crisis that continues to plague the country.

Stay tuned for further developments.
