There is no doubt that the world’s biggest celebrities hold a huge amount of influence when it comes to the retail game. With large pay checks to prove their pull, a new investigation has found that perhaps the numbers aren’t as impressive as we may think – that is, their followers. As Instagram begins the controversial roll out of hiding likes, the very empire of influencers is slowly crumbling.

UK company ICMP – The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance – conducted an investigation through IgAudit and Sparktoro’s fake Twitter follower’s tool to measure what percentage of their following was real. Out of 99 celebrities across ‘showbiz’ and ‘sport’, the results were interesting.

Ellen Degeneres has the highest amount of fake followers, with 58 percent  of her Instagram followers considered fake while South Korean boy band BTS closely followed with 48 percent. The eldest siblings of the Kardashian clan, Kourtney, Kim and Khloe was found to have 49 and 44 percent of their followers fake, respectively. Other key celebrities include Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Kevin Hart and Drake.
