Despite having just arrived on the music scene in 2018, Channel Tres has already garnered a wide and global fan base. Thanks to his intoxicating live sets and catchy beat loops, the West Coast-praised artist has made a name for himself and when his latest EP came across my desk, it immediately became my Saturday night go-to playlist. Following his visit to Australia earlier last month, the country’s alt music fans flocked to the Lansdowne in Sydney’s inner city as well as Childish Gambino’s pre-performance set to witness his relaxed demeanour. Now, he has released the latest EP, ‘Black Moses’.

Counting A-listers including Gambino, Anderson Paak and electronic music giant Disclosure as fans, perhaps his biggest shout out was from music veteran Elton John. Dubbed as the man’s “favourite new artist”, according to Tres it was “confirmation that I was supposed to be doing this.”

Featuring five songs within the track list, the latest collection of beats from the is a nod to Isaac Hayes while paying homage to black pride. The EP includes his popular new sounds ‘Sexy Black Timberlake’ and title track ‘Black Moses’ featuring JPEGMAFIA. But unlike the the smooth hip-hop vibes Tres has become known for, the artist recalled to ICON how he found his love through church and folk style music.

“I was raised with my great grand parents, [we’d] go to church and just listen to music, it was something I just harmonically drifted to,” he told ICON. “…different stuff opened up to the dance world and I started studying house music…”

Now signed to record label Godmode Music and with another EP under his belt, Tres and his epic dance duo are heading across the US in one of his biggest tour yet. 2019 has proved to be huge after performing at Primavera Sound, Movement and Field Day, and has released remixes for Mark Ronson, Toro Y Moi, Smino and August 08.

Tune into his latest tunes below.
