Sigurd Grenache 2020. $35. From Sigurdwines.
Winner of Winemaker’s Choice at this year’s Young Gun of Wine Awards, Dan Graham’s ‘Sigurd’ has helped redefine youthful and fresh wines of the Barossa Valley since 2012, with fruit-driven wines made with a minimal-intervention approach and no additions bar sulphur at bottling. This Grenache from the 2020 vintage is a fine example of Sigurd’s winemaking prowess and goes down a treat on a warm summer’s day.
Zonzo Estate Reserve Shiraz 2018. $55. From Zonzo.
Located in the heart of the Yarra Valley – one of Victoria’s premium cool-climate wine regions – lies Zonzo Estate, a rustic, Italian-inspired winery and cellar door. This Reserve Shiraz from 2018 is a special treat for a special occasion, so savour every drop. Expect notes of berry fruits and liquorice, with a subtle hint of savoury earthiness.
Coldstream Hills Reserve Chardonnay 2019. $60. From Coldstream Hills.
Another great Yarra Valley contender, Coldstream Hills (founded by wine doyen James Halliday) is renowned for its ethereal, delicious Pinot Noir and powerful and inviting Chardonnay. This Reserve Chardonnay from 2019 is no exception. Made only in years where the fruit is of the highest quality, this wine offers a great balance and structure with white peach and lemon citrus on the palate, balanced with subtle French oak and mouth-watering acidity. One for the cellar or to enjoy now.
Tolpuddle Pinot Noir 2020. $95. From The Wine Emporium.
Located in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, Tolpuddle vineyard has developed a cult following thanks to its delicious Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. True to the Tolpuddle winemaking style – and a true expression of the Pinot Noir varietal – this wine from 2020 is medium-bodied, wonderfully aromatic and offers fresh acidity balanced with ripe tannins. Get yours while you can, for it won’t last long. 
Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2016. $150. From Wynns.
This 100-point Halliday Wine Companion-awarded wine is a truly remarkable feat from one of Coonawarra’s best wine producers. First made in 1982, the John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon pays homage to wine visionary John Riddoch himself. Made only in small quantities in exceptional years, this definitive Cabernet Sauvignon is plush, juicy and beautifully textured. All the hallmarks of a great Cabernet Sauv!
