As of late, with the influence of sustainability at large across the world the humble shipping container has gained traction as a new movement for creative engineering. Already seen to construct a new Taiwanese Starbucks, the French ski resort of Avoriaz has adopted the concept with the Flying Nest Shipping Container Hotel.

Drawing inspiration from the packed capsule hotels seen throughout the bustling city of Tokyo, Japan, the industrial spaces were the brain child of Ora-ïto for AccorHotels, designed to be packed up and installed anywhere in the world. Constructed from original steel facades cladded with wood panelling promoting warmth, each dwelling houses a living room, bathroom, and bed, with the breathtaking scenery showcased through a large picture window.

Amongst the layered network of containers, outdoor terraces connect each module and provide guests an area to take in the surrounding landscapes following a day on the slopes.

The Flying Nest Shipping Container Hotel will remain open in the French Alps during the winter before it is shipped off to its next mystery destination. For more information and to book your stay, visit the resort website here.
