Welcome back to ICON’s newest series – ICON Off Air, where we round up our favourite beats for the month. In April we saw a surprise release from Childish Gambino and looked back on the career of the late Bill Withers. For the month of May, feel-good beats and dance-worthy tracks are the theme for the month as we see light at the end of the tunnel for current restrictions.
Our favourite Glaswegian Joesef dropped a new soulful single which instantly melts away any worries while Yungblud – who we spoke candidly with here – dropped hotly-anticipated single ‘Weird’ and is the perfect track to the current pandemic. When ICON spoke with AJ Tracey in late-2019, the only goal for the UK-based rapper was “Honestly, I just want more people to play my music. That’s that.” Now boasting close to 5 million listeners on Spotify alone, you could say he is quickly reaching the goal with his latest single ‘Dinner Guest’.

No one will forget the hype that would inevitably build from Travis Scott‘s new collaboration with Kid Cudi. In true Scott style, ‘THE SCOTTS’ made its debut on Fortnite, while the art was from none other than KAWS.

For another change of pace, ukulele-playing teenager Maia, better known as MXMTOON, is rounding up this month’s playlist with her light-hearted tracks infused with a little angst. For easy listening, I have this music prodigy on repeat from her new LP Dawn, our favourite track, ‘Fever Dream’.
