As we near the second month of winter, the cool sting has set in. Navigating these dreary months can be a little depressing particularly when leaving the evening comfort of cozy jersey and elasticised waists. But as everyday style backtracks to more casual attire, the beloved track pant has been reworked to take pride position in your weekly kit – for any occasion.

Playing on the baggy silhouette and tapered hem, ICON Stylist and Fashion Office Manager Patrick Zaczkiewicz has reimagined the style five different ways.

going grey

We’re all very familiar with the classic grey marle track pant. Once exclusive to the couch and late night supermarket runs, its endless comfort has been introduced to the street.

“The most formal way to dress up your track pants is with a shirt and blazer combo,” Patrick suggests. To refine the baggy style, opt for a ‘”streamline” top to create a modern silhouette. And when it comes to shoes, banish the ugg boot for a classic white sneaker – “you can never go wrong.”

tone up

On-trend and lends itself to high-fashion, going tonal can refine any look. Choose one block colour that works with your skin tone and go from there.

“Try slightly printed and abstract styles then mix with one core block colour to carry the whole outfit,” Patrick says. “The mixing of stripes and print give an outfit more depth and excitement especially when working with similar tones.”

tech-head

As Spring/Summer 2020 collections are unveiled during fashion week, it seems that technical fabrics are here to stay. Use the material as the hero element while keeping the rest of your look simple. Add a little something extra with the layering of a camp collar shirt over a tee and when it comes to accessories?

“You always need something to hold your stuff, so why not a cool, graffiti style bum bag from Coach.”

logo mania

Why not make a statement with logo mania. Channeling “a full rat pack mood”, this is the sporty rendition of the classic track pant.

“Use your track pant as the focal point to work from. For the rest of your look like I’ve done here, the navy and red is then translated onto the Gucci polo, with great accessories in similar tones,” Patrick advises.

’70s flare

And for a trend interpretation of the track pant, this is Patrick’s take on the ’70s. With clashing prints, the look is perfect for the street but with a slight flare, “makes it easy to dress up with a pair of derby shoes, like these from MR P.”

“Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and colours, it makes any look more exciting. Take the risk, it’ll pay off.”
