Idris Elba was always plugged to play the newest James Bond, and after squashing those rumours recently, the actor has refreshed his image. Confirmed back in July, the Fast and Furious spin-off entitled “Hobbs and Shaw” announced Elba as the central villain, and now we have a first look at his character.

Revealed via Instagram, the image of Elba shows himself in a heavily armoured suit as well as three guards by his side. The caption introduced Elba, saying “I learned a long time ago (when I was a very sinful eyebrow raising villainous man in the crazy world of pro wrestling;) that heroes are only as great as their greatest villains. A pleasure to introduce the man himself @idriselba we brought in to our Fast & Furious franchise to wreak havoc, hell and mayhem on our heroes HOBBS & SHAW.”

It is one of the very few villain Idris Elba has played, and is an addition to likes of Stringer Bell in the TV series The Wire and Shere Khan in the live-action The Jungle Book.

Starring alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, the spin-off will see a refresh of Fast and Furious characters special agent Luke Hobbs and and professional criminal Deckard Shaw as they form an unlikely alliance. Directed by Deadpool 2’s David Leitch, the ninth instalment in the franchise is set to hit cinemas in July, 2019.

Stay tuned for further developments.
