Sitting down with Angie Martinez in the house of Salaam Remi, J.Cole shared his recent life in a 90 minute interview, during Rolling Loud 2018. The interview consisted of many topics and themes from Amy Winehouse, Cardi B and Drake, along with his social media and his pre-performance prayer.

The main highlight that occurred during the interview was his discussion about Kanye West – specifically about a tweeted screenshot that West posted after a private phone conversation between the two men. Although there is no bad blood between the two, J.Cole did say:

“I would’ve never posted that or tell him to post that,” Cole said. “That made me feel a certain type of way. I told him that. He apologised, for the record. I told him that it felt like you just used my name in that very quick conversation for social media and to keep your thing going, whatever you were doing. It just felt like it wasn’t sincere because of that.”

Elaborating on what the pair had discussed, J Cole added: “When he called me he said- right off the rip- ‘Man, I need you to hold me accountable. Keep me in check. Say whatever you gotta say. I need that. I feed off that.” Cole felt that West used his name and their brief conversation solely for social media and to “keep [his] thing going, whatever [he was] doing,” Cole said. “It just felt like it wasn’t sincere because of that.”

Along with this discussion, Cole also spoke about addiction and his mother. Find a moment and tune in below.
