The next nostalgic game character to hit cinemas is here. Following the premiere of Detective Pikachu, everyone’s old-school favourite Sonic The Hedgehog is receiving its own live-action remake and released today, we have a first look at the upcoming film. Starring James Marsden, Jim Carrey amongst other A-listers, the all-star cast ignites the adventure comedy.

According to the synopsis:

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Teeming with classic one liners and comedic pop culture references, Jim Carrey’s performance as the Doctor has me particularly hooked.

Sonic The Hedgehog is slated to drop into Australian cinemas from January 9, 2020. Check out the trailer below.
