A new era of Star Wars is occurring. Following the grand finale of the Skywalker Saga in 2019 and the beginning of a number of releases on streaming service Disney+, it seems the famed franchise is making a major shift and with it, a number of actors are asking, what is next? In an interview last week, Han Solo frontman, Alden Ehrenreich, hinted that he may return after going M.I.A for a number of years. Now, British actor John Boyega has suggested he has “moved on” from his role.

Best known as ‘Finn’ in the last three Star Wars films – The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker – Boyega has revealed he is leaving the film franchise to fans in the comment section on Instagram.

As reported by Variety: User @techsteveo wrote: “Force Finn in action with Green lightsaber dressed in black is all I want from the next SW film!” Boyega replied: “lol no thank you. I’ve moved on [heart emoji].” User @samkim_1 then wrote, “really just got those Disney bucks and dipped [laugh crying emoji],” to which Boyega responded: “nope. Not into playing one role for too long. I have more to offer than that. That’s all.”

Another fan, @anthony_m95, wrote: “you know they’re bad movies when even you don’t wanna go back to them… excited to see you in future projects though!” There was no response to this, but the comments from Boyega did cause a Star Wars debate in the comment section.

It is not the first time that Boyega has expressed his suggestions on departing the franchise. In April, after Twitter user @SGSAMII had described “Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker” as “embarrassing,” Boyega responded: “Embarrassing ? LOL you wish. Very fulfilling, some disappointments but yet not that big of a deal. Everyone has moved on…..”
