Jude Law in The Young Pope / HBO

Golden Globe nominee Jude Law will come together with John Malkovich for a new series coined, “The New Pope”. Following up Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Young Pope,” the new series is set for production in November, for release in 2019.

Reports from HBO and Italy’s Sky say that the new series is not a direct second season to “The Young Pope”, but rather “set in the world of the modern papacy.” It is currently not known what the synopsis of the series will be, or the characters that Law and Malkovich will play. The first series, followed Law’s Lenny Belardo, as he became the first American pope – a manipulative character that disturbs the peace of the Vatican. Rumours however, say that Malkovich will play the titular new pope.

Both actors have been nominated for prestigious awards in Hollywood including the Golden Globe and the Academy award. “The New Pope” will be a rare television highlight for Malkovich while law works on upcoming Marvel film, “Captain Marvel”.

Production in Italy is scheduled for November, with Sorrentino set to write the story line with Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises.
