It was only a matter of time until Kaye West went rogue again. Ahead of the rappers third Donda listening party (seriously Kanye, just release it already) West has filed official court documents to change his name from Kanye Omari West to “Ye”. In paperwork obtained by E! Newshe stated it was for “personal reasons”.

He self-appointed the nickname back in 2018 in a tweet, writing, “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.” We happily took up the nickname but a permanent change seems a bit much.

In the same year, West’s namesake album Ye was released. In a past interview he explained the shortened term actually had a spiritual meaning. “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”

It’s unclear whether the name change will be made official just yet.

Instead of releasing his next highly-anticipated album onto streaming platforms (at least for now), he plans to hold a series of listening parties and performances across the US. The album title is named after his late mother, Donda West.

Amid a very public divorce from Kim Kardashian, the reality star attended West’s first listening party in Atlanta, Georgia. While the pair was once believed to not be on speaking terms, the estranged couple wore matching red ensembles to the event.

The name change also comes after it was revealed he and Irina Shayk had split after a quick two month fling. One source for People said “It was never a serious thing that took off.”

“Kanye and Irina are over, but they never really started, there’s nothing going on there,” another source for US Weekly also said.

Stay tuned.
