Look, if you read the Daily Mail looking for facts you’re already off to a bad start. Today, the news outlet reported that the rapper formerly known as Kanye West had removed all his teeth to replace them with a set of US$850K titanium “dentures”.
This even included “exclusive” photos of the rapper’s new grill. Allegedly, these were inspired by the Bond villain Jaws but from this writer’s perspective look more like an uncomfortable version of a mouthguard you would have worn while playing football as a kid.
This then caused an absolute snowball of coverage, with even Page Six reporting the story.
The truth is far more boring: Kanye West got a new grill. Not a set of dentures, not even crowns or veneers. The outlet even went so far as to get a quote from West’s surgeon, Dr Thomas Connelly in Beverly Hills who, alongside Naoki Hayashi, Master Dental Technician, fit the controversial rapper for his new accessory.
But according to Complex, only half the story was reported. Gotta love those clickbait headlines.
“[Kanye West] did not have his teeth removed,” Dr Connelly told the digital culture outlet. “He still has a full dentition. Healthy and happy.”
Whatever. West is known for his stunts ahead of an album dropping and Vultures, the anticipated new release from the 46-year-old father of four is allegedly dropping this February.
So at least the media mill is in place and ready to go, Mr West. Brava.
