For members of the celebrity style set, sartorial experimentation is rarely within their wheelhouse. Their mode of dressing usually operates under a tried-and-tested silhouette, save for a few unorthodox or radical style displays.
Such is true for the Kardashian-Jenners, especially in regard to wedding guest dressing.
For the reality stars and business women, attending any nuptials means that they’ll adhere to their own separate dress code, regardless of what’s written on the innovation. As you could guess by now, their compulsory attire can be defined by three words: black, tight and cutout.
On June 27, Kim Kardashian was photographed in Los Angeles in a sensual Alaïa dress from the French luxuriate’s Spring/Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection. A look similar to the infamous Mugler cutout dress she wore back in 2019.
The garment can be described less as a dress, and more as a stringy cutout bodysuit with a velvet and PVC cutout skirt layered over the top. Though designed by Pieter Mulier, the Belgian designer is proving exactly why Azzedine Alaïa was called the titan of tight.
The outfit, which closed the maison’s SS23 collection, featured all the hallmarks of a Kim Kardashian classic. Her body, beat to perfection and hugged the floor-grazing skirt in all the right ways as the fabric crept up her body and attached to a plasticine running through the skirt’s middle à la pods in The Matrix.
If you were unaware of her location, one might assume she was going to a red carpet or even a date night, especially since Kardashian eschewed the mesh top seen on Alaïa’s runway for something more strappy and skin-baring.
Instead, and as we’ve grown accustomed to seeing, Kardashian opted for this dress to attend the wedding of her former assistant turned friend, Stephanie Shepherd.
For those who have, please excuse this pun, kept up with the KarJenner brood, you’ll know that Kendall Jenner also wore a similar slinky silhouette for the wedding of Lauren Perez to David Waltzer back in November 2022.
Rather than diverting away from her own megawatt celebrity stardom, Jenner embraced her shine in a vampish triangular cutout dress plucked straight from the Mônot runway.
So far, the score is set: one to the Kardashian Jenners, zero to the brides.
