In recent years, Rian Johnson has become one of the most prolific directors thanks to his work on Star Wars film, The Last Jedi. But unlike the high-production action plot of the 2017 instalment, the creative has expanded his repertoire with a modern murder mystery. Reshaping the classic ‘whodunnit’ scenario, the first and intriguing trailer to Knives Out has been released.

Boasting a star studded cast, the film fuses an old-fashioned setting with contemporary characters and includes the likes of Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Noah Segan, Edi Patterson, Riki Lindhome, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer. The film is reminiscent of the 1985 adaption, ‘Clue’ and while the film weaves present-day humour into the mix – we suggest skipping to the part where Chris Evans tells everyone to “eat s**t” – a sense of impending darkness and violence seeps through the script.

Paying homage to novel queen and author of ‘whodunnit’ classics, Agatha Christie, the official synopsis reads:

“When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.”

The film is slated to drop in late November. Tune into the trailer below.
