We’ve seen some incredible items auctioned over the years. Think Biggie Smalls’ ‘King of New York’ crown, the original Top Gun bomber jacket, Kobe Bryant’s childhood basketball hoop and even the mittens Bernie Sanders wore to Joe Biden’s inauguration. But would you ever pay good money for a used tissue?

According to a number of reports, the tissue Lionel Messi used to wipe his tears during a Barcelona departure conference is being sold for a whopping $1 million USD. An anonymous man sitting in the front row found his golden opportunity to make a few dollars and picked it up after the emotional press conference. He published an advertisement to international e-commerce platform Meikeduo for the auction.

The seller says the tissue “contain Messi’s genetic material” and that the football star’s DNA could be used to make a clone of the player. Now he’s lost me and apparently everyone else. The advertisement has reportedly been live for a number of days with no one willing to drop the coin.

Messi was forced to exit Barcelona following 17 seasons with the club after it was unable to renew his contract due to financial constraints. He now joins Paris-Saint Germain. The 34-year-old will wear the no. 30 jersey with the club, the same number he wore during his debut for Barcelona in 2004.

“If I dreamed of bidding farewell, I would like to say goodbye to a fully packed Camp Nou,” Messi said during the press conference. “I am grateful to everyone who loves and supports me. I’ve missed the fans so much over the past year. I think of those who sang my name.”

It truly is the end of an era.
