Let’s be real, Bernie Sanders was never going to let the 46th Presidential Inauguration be all about Joe Biden. Last week, the politician became a viral sensation after being pictured rugged up in a Gore-Tex jacket and wearing hand-knitted mittens at the historic event. The internet erupted into a flurry of memes and eager fans went looking for the said-mittens.

It was soon learned that the gloves were made by school teacher Jen Ellis and were sadly not available. That is, until she created three pairs this week to be auctioned off for charity.

“Here is picture of the Bernie mittens you can bid on. Just made yesterday! @outrightvermont @kendisgibson @lindseyreiser,” she wrote.

Reportedly dubbed as the ‘XO’ mittens, they are made from repurposed wool sweaters and is lined with fleece that’s made from recycled plastic bottles. Sustainable, Bernie-chic. The three pairs aren’t the exact same as Sander’s khaki and brown version but it didn’t stop eager customers bidding thousands for the winter accessory.

At the time of publishing, the right-hand pair are going for $7,052 USD. To be first in line, you’ll have to bid at least $7,102 USD in the next 24 hours. All proceeds will go to LGBTQ+ youth. Check out the Charity Auctions Today website for more.
