Former Rapper, Logic, broke auction records this week when he purchased a Charizard Pokémon card for $226,000 USD. While it’s the highest known sale of any Nintendo collectable ever purchased to date, the card isn’t a regular Charizard card. Logic is now the owner of a PSA 10 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard card, which is notable for its rare lack of shadow on the artwork. The winning bid totalled $183,812 USD with a 20% buyer’s premium added after purchase.

After retiring from the music world, Logic – whose real name is Sir Robert Bryson Hall II – has been keeping busy with fatherhood and his partnership with Twitch, where he unwraps his Pokémon cards to his audience. Spending a considerable amount of time expanding his Pokémon collecting, Logic also purchased a Base Box Set for $23,000 USD.

Taking to Instagram, Logic spoke about his passion for Pokémon cards “When I was a kid, I absolutely loved Pokémon but couldn’t afford the cards” he said. “I remember even trying to trade food stamps for theirs and now as an adult who has saved every penny he has made being able to enjoy something that I’ve loved since childhood now as a grown man is like buying back a piece of something I could never have, it’s not about the material it’s about the experience”.
