Property porn has been big business on reality TV for a while, but despite a booming real estate market, Australia has never produced its own version – until now.

Luxe Listings Sydney is finally set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video this Friday as part of the first original commissioning slate for the streaming platform in this country.

Looking to emulate the success of Million Dollar Listings and Selling Sunset, Luxe Listings Sydney seamlessly blends drama and reality, pitting Australia’s top agents against one another. The battlefield? The most luxurious (and by that, we, of course, mean, expensive) homes in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs.

The Lineup

As is often the case with reality TV programs, they live and die on their talent and based on what we’ve seen so far in teaser trailers; Luxe Listings Sydney has nailed the brief. The six-part series follows elite agents Gavin Rubinstein, D’Leanne Lewis and Simon Cohen as they negotiate multi-million-dollar deals in one of the world’s most luxury real estate markets.

You can’t build a house without decent foundations, and the three agents tasked with carrying Luxe Listings Sydney seem rock solid.

Gavin Rubinstein

While it might be early days, there is a fair chance that Gavin Rubinstein will steal the spotlight in Luxe Listings Sydney. Immaculately dressed, outrageously confident and born to close, Gavin is the beating heart of The Rubinstein Group.

Rubinstein is a casting producer’s dream, a man that speaks exclusively in sound bites and oozes charm. Reality television can be guilty of over manufacturing the drama, but with someone like Rubinstein on board, Luxe Listings Sydney can just hit record and watch Gavin do Gavin.

D’Leanne Lewis

The self-described ‘rottweiler in heels,’ D’Leanne Lewis is part of the team at Laing+Simmons Double Bay and a high-flying take-no-prisoners agent. Lewis has already spoken openly about the struggles she has faced as a woman in a male-dominated industry, so expect to see the ‘Queen of Queens Park’ hold her own.

Simon Cohen

The final piece of the Luxe Listings Sydney lineup is Simon Cohen. Unlike Rubinstein and Lewis, Cohen is a buyer’s agent and Co-Founder of Cohen Handler, the most prominent Property Buyer’s Agency in Australia. But that doesn’t make him any less ruthless or eager to edge out his competition. The master of the off-market deal, Cohen has the kind of contact book that most agents will kill for, and it’s precisely the reason he’s the envy of so many in the industry.

What to expect?

The line “this offers a little something for everyone” may be classic real estate agent speak, but in the case of Luxe Listings Sydney, it just might be true.

Hardcore reality fans will appreciate the agent infighting and battle for supremacy as Gavin, D’Leanne and Simon traipse across Sydney, vying for the biggest slice of the pie. Meanwhile, aspirational property lovers (which covers most of Australia) will enjoy the merry-go-round of multi-million dollar properties that are on offer. Sure, you might be streaming your show from a tiny two bedder that you’ll be paying off forever, but it’s nice to know what’s out there (and out of your price range).

Either way, we’re sold on Luxe Listings Sydney. Put it in your diary for this Friday night.
